Companies Wishing to Apply for a License in Rhode Island

All new applicants should begin by first reviewing Rhode Island’s Jurisdiction-Specific Requirements along with Rhode Island’s Statute and Regulations, available on the Department’s website by clicking on www.dbr.ri.gov and following the link to “Rules and Regulations” for applicable regulations and the link to General Laws of Rhode Island for Rhode Island Statutes.

All new applications must be submitted to the Department via the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS).

If your company already has a completed record in the National Mortgage Licensing System, then applying for a license in Rhode Island merely involves filing your company's record (Form MU1), control person records (Form MU2) and relevant branch records (Form MU3) with Rhode Island through NMLS and mailing in the required jurisdiction-specific requirements to the Department.

If your company does NOT currently have a record in the NMLS and is interested in applying for a mortgage lender and/or mortgage broker License in Rhode Island, getting started is easy. Go to the Getting Started page of the NMLS website and follow the steps outlined.
